Planes and San Miguel de Tucumán

¡Hola amigos! ¿Qué tal?

No, all things considered I’m still keeping my blog in English, don’t you worry. And if the weird looks I get whenever I try to express just about anything in Spanish are any indication of my expression level, I’m definitely not ready to write a blog entry in it!

Soooo, what happened? Well, some quite uneventful travel I’d daresay. I took the plane from Paris to Madrid, then from Madrid to Buenos Aires, at which I had to change airport to get yet another plane to Tucumán. Once there, I learnt that only a cab could take me to the city (the bus supposidely requiring a pass which could only be bought in the said city). I think this probably was some misinformation from the cab driver but at that point I was too tired to care anyway. I then crawled to my hotel room, and crashed onto my bed (though not before taking a well earned steaming bath). Yay! Argentina, here I am!!!

First day in Tucumán, I went for a walk along the streets to familiarise myself with the culture. I had decided to take my time breakfasting and go poke around the bicycle shops during the afternoon (which proved to be a bad idea). I thus strolled along “la plaza Independencia”, close to which I could find what I take for the city Hall (cf. picture) as well as a church.

Once there, I thought it would be a good idea to go for a bike shop not so far from there. That’s when I realised that most shops are simply closed during the afternoon. They’re really digging the “taking a nap” thing. And when I say closed, I mean closed from half past noon to 4:30pm!

No matter, I just decided to go visit the “Casa histórica de la independencia”, where the treaty was signed for the declaration of independence from Spain…. And any other country (yes, they added that. Apparently the English folks seemed a bit too much interested in the land for their own good). There you can find a picture of the patio inside the house, as well as the room where the treaty was signed.
